The Arnold Palmer Invitational 2012 Preview

The Arnold Palmer Invitational is a PGA Tour golf tournament. It is played each March at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge, a private golf resort owned since 1974 by Arnold Palmer in Bay Hill, Florida, a suburb of Orlando. The event was founded in 1979 as a successor to the Florida Citrus Open Invitational, which was played at Rio Pinar Golf Club in Orlando. It has had a number of different names since then, most of them including "Bay Hill", but has played under the Palmer name since 2007.
As a restricted field event on the PGA Tour, only the first 70 players on the previous year's money-list are guaranteed invitations.
Tiger Woods won what was then known as the Bay Hill Invitational four years in a row from 2000 to 2003. This is one of only four occasions that a golfer has won the same event four times in a row on the Tour. In 2004 he was one shot off the lead after opening with a 67, but followed up with back to back 74s on the Friday and Saturday, and ended the final round on Sunday in a tie for 46th place. Woods then won the 2008 and 2009 tournaments, both times with birdie putts on the final hole.

On the PGA Tour this week is the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, and it happens March 22nd tot he 25th. This tournament happens at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida with a six million dollar purse. The defending champion for this tournament is Martin Lairs. The winner gets over a million dollars in prize money and 500 FedEx Cup points are up for grabs. The next tournament on the calendar is the Shell Houston Open which is at the RedStone Golf Club Tournament Course in Humble, Texas starting on March 29th.
Players participating in this tournament include Robert Allenby, Charley Hoffman, Pat Perez and Ricky Barnes. Chad Campbell and Jonathan Byrd are also playing along with Trevor Immelman, Dicky Pride, John Rolling and K.J. Choi. Other names on the field that you might recognize include Lee Janzen, Rory Sabbatini, Daniel Chopra, Henrik Stenson and Martin Laird.

The Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic 2012 Preview

The Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic is a golf tournament on the Champions Tour. It was played for the first time in 2010 at the Fallen Oak course in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The purse for the 2011 tournament was $1,600,000, with $240,000 going to the winner.

Defending champion Tom Lehman, Fred Couples, Loren Roberts and Kenny Perry headline the field for the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic at rain-soaked Fallen Oak.
The 81-man field includes 28 of the top 30 from last year's Champions Tour money list and 16 playerswho won at least one major championship on the PGA TOUR.
Last year, Lehman beat Jeff Sluman, Nick Price and David Frost by four strokes in nearly ideal conditions, finishing at a tournament-record 16 under. Lehman topped the Champions Tour money list last season and claimed the Charles Schwab Cup.
The 53-year-old Lehman is winless in four events this season.
"When the season kicked off I don't know that I was quite as ready and quite as prepared as a year ago," Lehman said. "That's really changing now. I've been working hard on my game and feel like I'm back on track."
The pro-am was canceled Thursday after nearly 4 inches of rain hit the course.
"It's a very challenging golf course," Lehman said. "I think you need to take advantage of the par 5s, but there are also some short par-4 holes you need to take advantage of. There are also some difficult holes where you need to just hold on and not lose strokes."
Perry said Fallen Oak reminds him of some of the more difficult PGA TOUR courses because the penalty for missing the fairway is so severe. The 51-year-old Perry won the ACE Group Classic in Naples, Fla., in February.
"It's a large golf course," Perry said. "The worst, hardest bunkers I have ever seen, almost like hazards. Must stay out of the bunkers."
Roberts is coming off a victory Sunday in the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif. Roberts is from Memphis, Tenn., and said he hopes for a good showing close to home.
The weather is expected to improve over the weekend.

The Kia Classic 2012 Preview

The Kia Classic is a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour. It debuted in 2010 at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. The tournament moved north for a year in 2011 to the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in the City of Industry in Los Angeles County; it returns to La Costa in 2012.
The title sponsor of the tournament is Kia Motors, a South Korean-based automobile manufacturer.
The winner of the inaugural tournament was Hee Kyung Seo, a member of the LPGA of Korea Tour (KLPGA). She became the 19th non-LPGA member in LPGA Tour history to win an LPGA Tournament and the first player to win as a sponsor exemption since Jin Joo Hong won the KOLON-Hana Bank Championship in October 2006.[1] With the win, Seo became immediately eligible for LPGA membership and was a rookie on the LPGA Tour in 2011.
In 2011, the event was decided by the final pairing on the final green. With both players tied at 15-under, Sandra Gal hit a wedge to within two feet (0.6 m) of the hole and Jiyai Shin was four feet (1.2 m) out. Gal made hers for birdie to win her first LPGA event by a stroke.
This week on the LPGA Tour is the LPGA Kia Classic, which is going to be held from the 22nd of March to the 25th in Carlsbad, California. This tournament is worth $1,700,000 and it was won last year by Sandra Gal who beat out Jiyai Shin. There are two other tournaments on the LPGA Calendar this month, one is the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, happening from the 15th to the 18th, and the other is the Kraft Nabisco Championship, held in Rancho Mirage, California for $2,000,000 from March 29th to the 1st of April.
Here are some of the players in this tournament. Amanda Bluemenhurst, Heather Bowie Young, Irene Cho and Karlin Beck are all playing as well as Paula Creamer, Laura Davies, Laura Diaz, Sandra Gal and Natalie Gulbis. Katie Futcher is on the field as well along with Taylor Coutu, Sophie Gustafson, Katherine Hull, Amy Hung and Vicky Hurst.
