The 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup is the sixth FIFA Women's World Cup competition, the world championship for women's nationalassociation football teams. It is being held from 26 June to 17 July 2011 in Germany, which won the right to host the event in October 2007.

The matches are played in nine stadiums in nine host cities around the country, with the final being played at the Commerzbank Arena inFrankfurt. Sixteen teams were selected for participation via a worldwide qualification tournament that began in 2009. In the first round of the tournament finals, the teams compete in round-robin groups of four teams for points, with the top two teams in each group proceeding. These eight teams advance to the knockout stage, where two rounds of play decide which teams will participate in the final.

On the other hand Japan’s victory over Sweden in semifinal by 3-1 was another upset. Game started with a lot of thrill when Sweden struck a goal against Japan in 10th minute by a left foot shot of Josefine Öqvist. This was a morale raising goal but at the same time proved to be the last goal from Sweden side. Nahomi Kawasumi from Japan scored a goal in 19th minute and another unexpected goal from Homare Sawa of Japan took the score to 2-1. As this was not enough to puncture Sweden when in 64th minute Japan maintained domination and Nahomi Kawasumi scored another goal. This resulted in Japan’s victory over Sweden and they made it to FIFA World Cup Soccer Final 2011 for the first time.
