This week, the New York Giants host the surging Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. The Bills, 4-1, are tied in the AFC with New England and San Diego for the AFC's best record. Buffalo has ridden to victory on the arm of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and running back Fred Jackson. The Giants will no doubt have their hands full with the two of them this week, but there are some things they can do to still win the game.

While the Buffalo offense has put up enough points to win games, their defense hasn't made it easy on them. The Bills defense is ranked 30th in the NFL in overall defense. They allow 421.8 yards per game, 283.4 in the air and 138.4 on the ground. With Brandon Jacobs sitting out for the second straight game with a sprained MCL, the ground game is going to suffer. Ahmad Bradshaw will get the bulk of the carries, while DJ Ware and rookie Da'Rel Scott will be on call to help out. The ground game will not be what gets the Giants the win, but they will have to run the ball some to keep the Bills off balance.
What's really going to get the Giants down the field is the passing game. Eli Manning will need to be accurate. Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz will need to run accurate routes and hold on to the football. The Bills have three pass rushers that are unlikely to play in Shawne Merriman, Chris Kelsay and Kyle Williams. Manning will be granted a little additional time if even one of these players sits out. With that time, he'll need to hit is receivers to move the ball down the field. Manning will also need to make use of newly found weapon and tight end Jake Ballard. Ballard, technically in his first year, has ten receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns this season.
As long as the Giants offense can wear out the Bills defense and keep them on the move, putting points on the board shouldn't prove too difficult. But they have to be accurate, or the Bills will repeat last week's four interceptions against the Philadelphia Eagles. Those four picks give their defense the lead in the NFL in interceptions with 12.
The biggest key to victory this week is pressuring Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick averages 244.6 yards and two touchdowns per game. He has four interceptions in five games, though, so there is an opportunity for the Giants defense to really get things done. The Giants will be without Justin Tuck once again, but Osi Umenyiora will be on the field and he will pick up the slack. If the Giants can get pressure on Fitzpatrick early, they can throw him off of his game and force him to make bad decisions. And even if he doesn't make bad decisions, if the Giants pressure him and cover the receivers, his options will be limited and he'll have to throw the ball away.
Along with pressuring Fitzpatrick, the Giants must contain Fred Jackson. Jackson is third in the league among running backs, averaging 96 yards per game. Containing him won't be easy, but if the defense pressures the quarterback then the holes that Jackson has to run through will also be limited.
You can be sure that Perry Fewell will have his defense ready to go on Sunday. He was the Bills interim head coach in 2009 and the team decided to hire current head coach Chan Gailey. The way the Bills are playing may show that they made the right decision, but Fewell will want to show that they made a mistake in passing him over.
The Giants are almost in a must-win situation. Next week is their bye week and they need to have a solid win under their belts before taking a week off. If they can win the contest in the air on both sides of the ball, it will go a long way towards a win. Containing Jackson is secondary to everything else, but still something that they need to do. Those three things will be huge factors during the game, and none of them are going to be easy. The Bills have already proven that they're a tough team, so the Giants better be prepared to fight down to the last second.
